ABOUT US.
KATIE JELEN // OWNER // With an extensive background in creative synch licensing, artist development & management, Katie Jelen started Honestly Good Music with the vision to create a positive & supportive environment for creatives to do their best work. As the first ever creative sync executive on the ground for Warner Music Group in Nashville, Katie spent 5 years growing Warner Chappell & Warner Music Nashville’s synchronization business across film, television & advertising opportunities. She has landed songs in award-winning campaigns, worked with clients to create brand-defining custom music & has guided songwriters to success across multiple genres & mediums.
In 2018 she worked with The Martin Agency and brought on GRAMMY-Award winning songwriter Liz Rose (Taylor Swift, Little Big Town) to help client Land O’Lakes reimagine the beloved classic song “Old McDonald” to shine a light on female farmers for a national ad campaign (with an entirely female team). In 2019 she spearheaded a lucrative & multi-year partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line that saw Warner Chappell songwriters creating custom songs for the brand to use across their online advertising campaigns. Most recently she worked alongside songwriting duo OUTSKRTS to help define & bring to life a custom song for the Tennessee Titans called “Get Loud (Titan Up)” to use both on & off the field.
Since launching Honestly Good Music, Katie has worked on campaigns for brands such as Google, Jeep, Norwegian Cruise Line, Apple, Victoria’s Secret and Old Navy. Music from HGM artists can currently be heard in TV shows and promos for Good Trouble, The Rookie: Feds, Selling Sunset, Station 19, All American, Lincoln Lawyer, Motherland & more.
Prior to her time at Warner Music Group, Katie got her start at Secret Road Music Services in Los Angeles where she helped to grow the management team, assist in the launch of Secret Road’s publishing division & launch the Nashville operations for the company. Katie is a proud alumni of the prestigious Leadership Music program (‘20), a member of the Nashville Film Fest music committee & the Nurturing Outstanding Women (NOW) mentoring program.
MILLIE HSYU // HEAD OF FILM/TV // Millie Hsyu started in the music business at Zomba Music Group in 1999, a time of explosive growth for this independently owned company. Within the record label umbrella (Jive, Volcano & Silvertone to name a few) & Zomba Publishing she cut her teeth in both licensing for master/publishing & creative pitching for an incredible multi-genre catalogue of performers: from pop phenomenons Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys & NSYNC to legendary hip hop artists KRS-One & A Tribe Called Quest, & the rise of Limp Bizkit, Korn & Linkin Park. Wearing multiple hats in Zomba's compact LA offices, she also learned about artist management through Q Prime, composer representation at Zomba Screen Music, film editing through Segue, publicity & radio promotion - but she was hooked on sync when she landed her first sync with “Hate the Playaz” by Audrey Martells in the blockbuster film Save the Last Dance.
After BMG acquired Zomba, Millie experienced licensing on a bigger scale with international offices & eventually transitioned to the label side. Moving on to Warner Chappell Music, over the next 17 years she expanded her knowledge-base with a catalog spanning from the 1930s to present day. Some of her favorite syncs landed over the years include “One Day Like This” by Elbow in the trailer for The Soloist; a bespoke cover of “Magic” for the Motherland: Fort Salem promo; “Black Man in a White World” by Michael Kiwanuka for the I Am Not Your Negro documentary trailer; the theme song “Until I Am One With You” by Ryan Bingham for the TV show The Bridge; & most recently, the end title “Keep Rising” by Jessy Wilson for The Woman King.
Building on her love of music, the close-knit relationships she has built over time & her extensive experience with clearing & pitching, Millie is looking forward to new challenges while leveraging her ability to navigate the labyrinthine world of artists/writers, supervisors, managers, studio execs, labels & publishers. She also enjoys fostering new talent, mentoring for internship programs & promoting fellow AAPIs in sync. And if you have pets, especially dogs, tell them she said “hi.”
